The Designers Republic

Designers Republic is a design studio based in Sheffield.  It was established in 1986 by Ian Anderson.  He likes music, so initially he designed flyers and record covers for the bands based in Sheffield.  Designers Republic was known for its anti-establishment views.  However, as it became popular, it started working with big companies and it became difficult to manage all of odd jobs by the designers.  Finally, Ian Anderson announced Designers Republic closed for business in January 2009.

It was known for its original and unique typographies and

often used some Japanese characters and designed flyers for a techno club-night in Japan in 1990’s, so it is a famous and popular design company in Japan as well but these Japanese characters and sentences used in its works do not make any sense.  It also

often used bright colours and mixed images from Japanese cartoon animations.
