El Lissitzky 1890 - 1941

El Lissitzky was a Russain artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist and architech. He was an important figure of the Russian avant garde, helping develop superematism and designing numerous Exhibition displays and propaganda works for the former Soviet Union. His work greatly influenced the Bauhaus and constructivist movements.

Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge. There is a clear political message behind this deisgn. When the revolution took place in Russia in 1917, it did not mean the Soviet Union was immedatyly formed. A civil war erupted between the commnuists, the reds, and the royalists supporting the old regime, the whites.

The red wedge shows the communists invading the royalists and the battle plan for their victory

I like the way this peice is shown, using the circle as a whole army and the red wedge invading them with the sharp edge as if its popping a balloon and destroying it.
Using type to represent people

The striking colours of this peice draws me in to the neat and sophisticated compostion, with the dates lines up in boxes with the huge letter 'K' over powering the rest of the design to grab viewers attention.

the layout of this peice immediately catched my eye, with the sideways type and different size of the typeography, its shows there are so many ways to show graphic information. the red circle also tells me that it tells a story alone on the page, not needing and written decription untill the next page
