Sara De Bondt
Sara De Bondt undertook research on 'The World Map' as she felt it was an unconventional iconic piece of graphic design. She was inspired by the purpose and meaning behind its design and the idea that it had been embedded into reality rather than just magazines. The World Map remains an object of power as it is relevant to each creature on our planet. Therefore its versatility and complexity enables it to be a unique icon against any other. She was fascinated by the history behind the map and how it developed from a list which a traveller had made from recognizing the landmark and the routes which he took. It was interesting to explore the jump made from a list to a complex yet aesthetic map. Bondt viewed the World map as a projection of a child's treasure box. than a mere combination of mathematics and formations. This is the reason behind Sara De Bondt's modern vision and appreciation of this piece of graphic design.
